LETS have fun!

Well here's a turn up for the books. I'm actually out enjoying myself in a bar in Bury St Edmunds. But it's not just any old bar, it's So Bar in Langton Place, which is the new host for our LETS group.

For anyone who doesn't know what a LETS (Local Exchange Trading System) group is, all I can say it's the best thing since sliced bread and is perfect for today's economy. Not only can you have a good laugh to cheer yourself up, you can also get stuff without paying any cash, like these DVDs I've got for the kids. It's a simple system akin to bartering.

So if you're in Bury St Edmunds at this very minute, do come along to visit our group. We'll be at So Bar until about 9.30pm. And if you can't make it tonight, come along on the first Tuesday of every month (7.30pm - 9.30pm) with the exception of August. See www.burylets.org.uk for details.

And if you don't live nearby but want to find your local group, visit www.letslinkuk.net

P.S. Did anyone notice I am blogging live?...I'm now going back to join in the chat!

P.P.S. If you are interested in finding out more about LETS, do take a look at the post recently written for the Sustained blog.

Hi Mrs A,

How did you manage at the LETS get together?

With the cold weather and snow in many areas, the message might be "let's stay indoors, brrrrr".

I'd love to hear more about this...how to you make it fair for everyone? Do you exchange for equal number of items that you bring?

What a great idea, thanks! I've tried the York Lets link but it does not seem to work. I'll try to call that number tomorrow. Ciao. Antonella

Ooh, really sounds like a great idea!! wish we had something like this here too, & the clothes-swapping parties!! :)

Do tell more of the Lets, how you make it fair etc.. (what you bargained for, & what you offered for the DVDs... your soul? ;)

guess not. still, would be interesting to know what sorts of things people barter for... :)

How many people have things to exchange? Like good things? That sounds like great fun. I'd like to learn more.

Hi folks - thanks so much for your questions about the LETS scheme. Rather than answer them individually here, I think it would probably be worthwhile pooling all your questions together and I'll do a full blog post about it soon. So if anyone has got any specific queries, or indeed already belongs to a LETS group in another area, please feel free to send in your thoughts and I'll cover them in my blog post. Hopefully next week. It really is fun and I think that every town should have one...and John...it was so tempting to stay in the warmth LOL, but then there was the temptation of a lovely hot chocolate in the bar :0)

A blog post sounds great!! :)

I did take a look at the sites mentioned, but they sound a trifle complicated and a bit, uhm, boring :)
Basically seems people do stuff for 'credits' and then can use these credits for other stuff.. (?)
Is this terribly tedious for people who started it to keep track of etc or have they found more fun and easy ways to do it too?

Hi Layla - your wish is my command (LOL) have not long finished the blog post. In theory it all does sound a bit boring, but living the experience, it really is fun (and as for the accounting... well we leave that to the people who enjoy it) :-D x
