I can totally re...Am reading your old posts - lol!
I can totally relate to that frazzled '1st day & we already have this?!' feeling!! :)

I DID have a cut soon after reading about your plaster experience & you know what, my first thought was 'plaster' too - then I went & got one of the oldfashioned fabric strips my Mum's used on us when we were little.. It was a tiny cut & it healed JUST FINE with this alone!! :)

& then it gets rewashed (at high temperature, together with white linens) & all is well! :)

We are too obsessed with throwaway medical waste as a society!!

& there would be FAR less diabetes & such if air were healthier & food too!! (both are contributing factors to diabetes etc!)

A bunch of my relatives from the chemical-polluted city have diabetes too.. Those that managed to stick to better nutrition are on pills, one loves cookies too much..!!

One aunt (who is on pills) is experimenting with drinking tea from bean peels/pods & she says there's an improvement already!!
might be worth a try...?

I hear a lollipop blood-sugar test has been invented for diabetics too, to just lick & no needles needed!

Just curious, Mrs A, what do you use now instead of bandaids? - never heard of these liquid bandaids before..?
(are they really zero waste - complete with packaging etc?)Laylahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00832545657562957725noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1140894823591123770.post-45217387698149315542009-04-16T09:22:00.000+01:002009-04-16T09:22:00.000+01:00rolex replica watchesswiss rolex watchesfake rolex...rolex replica watchesswiss rolex watchesfake rolexrolex replica

air jordan shoescheap jordan shoesbuy jordan shoestiffany jewellrycheap tiffany jewellrybuy tiffany jewellryreplica handbagsreplica bags2009 designer Handbagscheap replica watchbuy replica watchbest replica watchsport replica watchesswiss luxury watchesAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1140894823591123770.post-42660616274863533682008-03-12T22:41:00.000+00:002008-03-12T22:41:00.000+00:00Hi Baba - thanks for all those suggestion...no I c...Hi Baba - thanks for all those suggestion...no I can't put it in a neighbours bin...that's not allowed. I'm glad you mentioned medical / clinical waste because I do want to comment.....my first thought about the plaster was that liquid plaster stuff that sharon j mentioned. The problem with used plasters and the like is that they are unhygienic and should be disposed of responsibly. If you work for the NHS you could always take it to work and put it in clinical waste!! No great solution for the majority of people I know...unfortunately I don't quite have the answer for everybody else unless you place them in a sanitary bin in a public toilet somewhere!! Some community pharmacies have clinical waste facilities but I'm not sure how responsive they would be to individual members of the public taking single items in....dare I suggest you put it in your neighbours bin while you fulfil the requirements for the zero waste project! (shame on me!)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1140894823591123770.post-14604432276242103842008-03-12T00:28:00.000+00:002008-03-12T00:28:00.000+00:00Hi Mel - wow, your company sounds so interesting. ...Hi Mel - wow, your company sounds so interesting. It's very diverse, which must create quite a few issues that need to be tackled. Maybe one of the other readers might be able to make some suggestions regarding your hit list. It sounds like a great effort that everyone is making. Well done and thanks for the well wishes.

Hi Anonymous - Thank you for going to the trouble to translate my rubbish messages. That is wonderful! What is great is that there is so much enthusiasm out there, even if it isn't obvious. What I've discovered is that the majority of people that I have come across would love to know how to tackle their rubbish, but the ideas haven't been so transparent before. So keep plugging at it and do let me know how you are doing.

Hi Fi - yes you're right about the tissues and I now wish I'd used a tissue for my finger. After reading about your situation, it makes me wonder about how medical waste is handled. That must be a major issue. (Maybe if Baba is reading, she might be able to comment)

Hi Sharon - Thank You. I'd never thought of that. I think that will be another one on my list, but you're right, I'd better check it out first.

Thanks so much for your comments everyone. I hope you don't mind the delay in getting back to you. It's very busy in the Almost Average Household at the moment. Thanks again for your support and encouragement.Almost Mrs Averagehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03566374419318255177noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1140894823591123770.post-55037444892822314862008-03-11T15:11:00.000+00:002008-03-11T15:11:00.000+00:00Have you ever tried liquid plaster? I don't know how eco friendly it is but we use it because... well, because it doesn't look like you have a plaster stuck on your finger and by the time the cut's healed, it's gone. I suppose you could flush tissues within reason, when you were flushing anyway!

At the moment I'm suffering from gestational diabetes and all my hypodermics (3 a day) and testing needles (6 a day) - they are made mostly of plastic - just get dumped at the hospital in the sharps bin, so I've had 'medical' waste on my mind a bit.Fihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02833906646563741104noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1140894823591123770.post-41428318424362189072008-03-11T12:44:00.000+00:002008-03-11T12:44:00.000+00:00Congratulations and I would like you to know that ...Congratulations and I would like you to know that I am translating all your rubbish into Italian and trying my best to get it into someone's head. At the moment I am working intensively at home but I have some some shy evangelising at the supermarket making it very clear to all the queue that I was only buying goods with recycable packaging. I'll keep you updated on my progress (if you don't hear anything.....). I was home in Bury end of last month and noticed that the road borders are well littered also there! The tea & coffee division is almost there already - they've been working on it a while & the biggest recycling guru in the firm is based there! Their packaging waste goes to schools & community groups for crafts & tea & coffee waste is composted.

I'm based in one of the shops, and we're only just getting started - with not nearly enough help from our local council, despite their green claims!

So far we're:
~ Recycling vegetable oil (into bio-diesel) & glass.
~ Sending some bottles back to where they come from for re-filling.
~ Giving aluminium to the local Guide Dogs and Scout groups to be recycled & raise them some cash.

Next jobs on the list are:
~ To find someone to take away cardboard, paper & plastics for actual recycling (we've been separating out card for months, then spotted the (council contractor) bin men putting it in the same lorry as everything else. "It's separated out back at the tip," they said, which is clearly, if I may, rubbish.)
~ To find some community groups to take some of our food waste off our hands - much of what we throw out is still perfectly edible, just not able to be sold the next day (bread, for example) - we already have one rehoming hostel on board but are looking for more.
~ To set up some sort of composting system for the rest of the food waste - this one's the biggie as it will involve a big investment of cash, space & effort, and we'll have to find somewhere for the finished compost to go!

Good luck with the rest of this week,
MelMelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14345534389677936093noreply@blogger.com
