Sometimes things just don't get eaten when you expected them to. <br /><br />With slightly under par vegetables it's worth turning them into soup or adding them to stews where you probably won't notice they weren't at their best.<br /><br />Of course chickens love things like the outer lettuce leaves, so if you're fussy about them, like me, there's a good reason not to have to eat them.<br /><br />Agreed, it doesn't make economic sense to waste food, but most people have a little occasionally, so I'm glad to discover the kerbside collection of food waste starts here in the Spring.
